European Medieval Drama is an international project which seeks to promote the study of medieval drama and performance. It explores medieval drama in all European languages and traditions. Drama and performance is widely interpreted to include subjects such as processions, dances, folk traditions, (semi-)theatrical and ritual events, and tournaments. The journal also includes notices relevant to members of the Société Internationale pour l’étude du théâtre médiéval, and information of interest to all scholars in the field of medieval drama (e.g. recently published books, forthcoming conferences, and book reviews).

All articles receive two double-blind reviews.Guidelines for Authors
Articles must conform in their presentation to the rules of the Modern Humanities Research Association (MHRA) style book, and must be submitted by email.
The stylesheet for authors can be found at: https://www.brepols.net/permalink/stylesheet-short-refsAuthors are required not to attach their name to the text of their articles, in order to facilitate objective assessment by members of the Advisory Board. Both contributors and Advisory Board members remain anonymous.
Articles should normally be up to 15,000 words in length, although longer submissions may be considered. Authors may include as many b&w images as they wish, so long as they are high resolution files (normally 1Mb and 300 dpi) and that permission to publish is checked and cleared.
Short Notices
Alongside standard-length articles, we welcome short contributions (c. 500-2500 words) on specific topics, e.g. a textual emendation, a discussion of the meaning of a particular stage direction, a description of a previously unknown manuscript or printed edition.Performance Record

This journal offers different licence options. A standard licence gives Brepols the exclusive copyright for all published content. Gold Open Access articles will be published under a CC BY-NC 4.0 Licence. For these articles the copyright remains with the authors.
