BREPOLiS - www.brepolis.net
For more than 25 years, Brepols has been developing high-value databases in the field of Humanities. These databases are hosted on a platform called BREPOLiS.
More information on these databases, including detailed leaflets, Powerpoint presentations, short videos, and content updates, is available on about.brepols.net.
Important Content Updates & Functional Improvements (2025):
We are pleased to remind you the BREPOLiS databases are growing and updated regularly, and extra features are being developed for the coming year(s), e.g.:
After a major structural update in 2023, equipping it with a new user interface, improved functionality, and closer links with the full-text databases, the Database of Latin Dictionaries (DLD) continues to grow: thanks to the regular 2024 update, the database will include a revised and expanded edition of Carmen González-Vázquez’s Dictionary of Latin Theatre alongside 27 other dictionaries.
In the spring of 2023, the Aristoteles Latinus Database (ALD) piloted an improved data organization and user interface for the full-text databases on Brepolis, allowing for closer integration with the Database of Latin Dictionaries. These innovations will gradually be implemented for the other Latin full-text databases too (Archive of Celtic-Latin Literature, Library of Latin Texts, and Monumenta Germaniae Historica). In the first months of 2025, it will become possible to switch between the current and the new versions of these databases. The move to the improved data organization and user interface will be completed by the end of 2025.
With 596 out of about 645 printed volumes already available, the Sources Chrétiennes Online (SCO) database now includes 92% of the print volumes in the long-running Sources Chrétiennes edition project. The SCO database is technologically on a par with the ALD, and will receive a user interface more closely resembling that of the ALD in the course of 2025, which is also when the database will catch up with the printed series.
Since February 2024, our bibliographic databases benefit from a new search engine as well as a new interface, which will improve accessibility—the target is to align with WCAG 2.1 AA— and offer more advanced search options. In the course of 2025, the current beta version will be activated as the default version.
