Summary

This volume presents the results of archaeological research conducted from 2022–2023 at the site of Khorsabad Dur-Sharrukin, the capital of Assyria under Sargon II (r. 722–705 BC). Bringing together ten studies, it documents a wide-ranging programme of investigation that combined topographic survey, systematic prospecting, and targeted excavation. The results presented here offer new insights into the layout and extent of the lower city, while additional test pits dug at the citadel, Gate 6, and the Great Royal Palace shed new light on the site and its archaeological potential. The volume is further enriched by the publication of inscribed bricks discovered during the project and by a new study of the temples of Khorsabad. Together, these contributions significantly advance our knowledge of one of Assyria’s most important urban centres and underline the value of integrated archaeological approaches.
