This edited collection of historical scholarship examines varioius theories of corporeal perception issuing from natural philosophy, medicine, aesthetics, and performance to explore understandings of the material powers of the imagination as a force for action, liberty, invention, contagion and cure.
The editors of this collection of essays, Elizabeth Claire, Béatrice Delaurenti, Roberto Poma and Koen Vermeir, have been collaborating on research concerning historical approaches to the powers of the imagination at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris since 2010. Their research is part of the ANR ANTHRAME on the powers of the soul.
