Barbara Helwing is the director of the Museum of the Ancient Near East in Berlin and an Honorary Professor at the universities of Berlin and Sydney with fieldwork in Turkey (Oylum Höyük), Iran (Arisman, Tappe Sialk), Azerbaijan (Kamiltepe), and Sri Lanka. She is interested in the development of early complexity and the role of technological innovations there-in and has published widely on these issues.
The sixth volume of the ARCANE series provides an overview on the status of research on the archaeology and history of the third millennium BC in western and southern Iran, including the results of recent exciting discoveries in the Jiroft area of south-eastern Iran. The authors gathered here present a critical and thorough discussion of available knowledge that takes the most recent discoveries into account. A richly illustrated new chronological scheme in line with the terminology developed for the ARCANE series is presented that will serve as a reference volume to scholars and students alike.
