This volume in honour of Kostas Buraselis, professor emeritus of Ancient History at the University of Athens, includes contributions by scholars from several countries on a number of topics pertaining to the study of the Greco-roman world, including civic and federal institutions and elites, the evolution of democracy, Athenian politics, imperial cult, honorific culture, foreign communities in Rome, regional studies (Elis, Boiotia, Paionia), foreign judges, manumission procedures, agonistic culture, the construction of local identities, and religious violence. Particular emphasis is given to the study of specific texts (inscriptions, papyri and literary sources), either published here for the first time, or critically reevaluated.
