Joris van Gastel is professor for early modern art history and director of the Institute for Art History at Leipzig University.
Nora Guggenbühler is academic assistant at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz - Max-Planck-Institut and doctoral candidate at the University of Zurich.
Summary
For several centuries, both the Spanish viceroyalties of Southern Italy— the Kingdoms of Naples and Sicily—and those of Central and South America were tied to the same colonial system. This book explores the artistic entanglements and shared visual and material cultures between these worlds, thereby looking at the circulation of people, artworks, objects, and materials, as well as connected religious phenomena.
