ABOUT

Rewriting the Middle Ages offers analytical introductions to the biographical and academic trajectories and scholarly contributions of the most relevant medievalists of the Twentieth Century, privileging the contexts in which their influential texts were articulated and their effect on the general evolution of medievalism and medieval studies. The Series focusses on medievalists from diverse fields (among them historians, philologists, literary critics, philosophers, historians of art and science, and theologians) whose work forged contemporary academics and shaped the image of the Middle Ages in modern. The volumes try to provide a comprehensive examination of the development of medieval studies – and, consequently, of modern medievalists – and offers critical reconsideration of the manifold ways in which medievalism has been inscribed in recent decades, explore the main scholarship debates that arose over the course of the twentieth century in medieval studies, and trace the intellectual history of the last century through the understanding of the life, context and works of its leading medieval scholars. The Series aims also to show the enormous interdisciplinary energy generated by medievalism.
