According to the Cambridge English Dictionary, the adjective 'iconic' means: 1. 'very famous or popular, especially being considered to represent particular opinions or a particular time', and 2. 'showing a relationship between the form of a sign, such as a word or a symbol, and its meaning'.
In this context, the main purpose of the series is to encourage modern readings of classical texts, and promote new, interdisciplinary fields in Classics. The subjects of IConiC focus on innovative research in Classics. Indicatively, some of the fields that will be explored, are: reader-response criticism in Ancient Greek and Latin literature; poetics; narratology; intertextuality; intratextuality; political and sociological readings of classical texts; Greek and Roman myths and religion; ancient Greek and Roman law; the Greek and Latin literature of Late Antiquity; reception (e.g. translation studies; impact of Antiquity in Byzantine, Medieval Latin and Neo-Latin literature, as well as modern literature, art and fashion); new approaches to papyrology, epigraphy and palaeography; historical linguistics; gender studies; digital humanities, teaching Classics, educational history of Classics.
The ambition of this series is to host the cutting edge of modern scholarship. The suggested fields concern modern, challenging, even intriguing readings of Classical literature.
