ABOUT

According to Cambridge English Dictionary, the adjective 'iconic' means: 1. 'very famous or popular, especially being considered to represent particular opinions or a particular time', and. 2. 'showing a relationship between the form of a sign, such as a word or a symbol, and its meaning'. In this context, the main purpose of this new series is to encourage modern readings of classical texts, and promote new, interdisciplinary fields in Classics. The series has a two-dimensional nature, and will include: a) the Proceedings of the homonymous IConiC (= Innovative Contributions in Classics), hosted by the Division of Classics & the Postgraduate Program in Classics of University of Ioannina (Greece) every three years, and, b) supplementary volumes, which will exist indepentedly of the aforementioned conferences (e.g. monographs, edited volumes, etc.). The subjects of IConiC will focus on innovative research in Classics. Indicatively, some of the fields that will be explored, are: reader-response criticism in Ancient Greek and Latin literature; poetics; narratology; intertextuality; intratextuality; political and sociological readings of classical texts; Greek and Roman myths and religion; ancient Greek and Roman law; the Greek and Latin literature of Late Antiquity; reception (e.g. translation studies; impact of Antiquity in Byzantine, Medieval Latin and Neo-Latin literature, as well as modern literature, art and fashion); new approaches to papyrology, epigraphy and palaeography; historical linguistics; gender studies; digital humanities, teaching Classics, educational history of Classics, etc. The ambition of this series is to host the cutting edge of modern scholarship. The suggested fields to be explored concern modern, challenging albeit intriguing readings of Classical literature. The main focus will be laid on interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches of the ancient world, as well as intercultural and comparative readings of the texts. The proceedings of the IConiC Conference will include papers delivered by the participants and submitted to the Scientific Committee (the participants will be well-known and established scholars, but young researchers too, as they are encouraged to present their work in progress). The papers will be published after a double-peer review process. Regarding the supplementary volumes of IConiC series, the submissions will be made via Brepols' proposal forms and submitted to the Editorial Board.
