In the last few decades the study of women in the arts has largely increased in terms of scholars involved in research and investigation, with the reception of the outcomes especially acknowledged by museums which are dedicating part of their mission to organizing exhibitions and/or acquiring the works of women. One of the most important roles in disseminating the topic in the world of scholars has been played by the feminist movement that has been fostering women's studies in art history since the early 1970s. The aim of this series is to share and understand the state of the field, and to disseminate the output of recent research. It is devoted to women's studies in the arts broadly speaking: visual arts, architecture, literature, illumination and material culture. Proposals are welcome from early career and established scholars dealing with any aspect of women's cultural production from the Middle Ages to the present.
