This series, created by the international research team Ius illuminatum (https://iusilluminata.fcsh.unl.pt), is focused on the study of illustrations in medieval legal manuscripts and documents, and on the artistic representations of justice, judgements and judicial practices found in manuscripts, paintings, sculptures, and drawings from the 8th to the end of the 15th century, The interdisciplinary character of the Ius illuminatum research team encourages a variety of approaches and topics, and fosters the study, not only of style and iconography, but also of the historical and social contexts of production, and of the phenomena of social and cultural mobility that condition and define artistic creation.
