The series Comparative Perspectives on Medieval History is devoted to investigations that have a comparative aim or apply comparative methods to medieval topics and research questions. Comparison might be focused on highlighting similarities across time and/or, space, or on identifying differences between various societies. It can take as its starting point regions that have no contact with one another, or it can consist in tracing connections between regions. The series welcomes investigations with a global focus, which compare phenomena in both medieval Western and non-Western societies. Investigations of topics across time are also encouraged, in order to highlight changes or continuities in medieval societies. Comparison might also transcend the medieval period, for instance drawing on earlier or later periods in history, or on other parts of the world. The series welcomes both proposals of monographs, as well as of co-written books and anthologies, in which theoretical or methodological introductions discussing and reflecting on comparative aspects are particularly encouraged. Proposed publications can focus on macro-phenomena as well as on more restricted issues as regarded in a comparative perspective.
