This book series, developed in partnership with the Centre for the Study of Medicine and the Body in the Renaissance (CSMBR), Pisa, is devoted to the publication of primary medical and medically related sources, including texts, commented editions, translations, and studies. It centres on the transmission of medical knowledge through the commentary tradition, which functioned as a principal vehicle of intellectual circulation across the Mediterranean and beyond. Particular attention is given to the ways in which texts were copied, translated, adapted, and taught across linguistic and cultural boundaries. The series welcomes critical editions and annotated translations of medical and medically related texts in Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Arabic, Syriac, Persian, as well as European vernaculars, from Antiquity to 1800. It also includes studies grounded in manuscript traditions, textual criticism, and the historical interpretation of sources, especially where these illuminate practices of reading, teaching, and use. By foregrounding primary materials and their transmission, the series aims to provide reliable tools for scholarship and to support work across the history of medicine, science, and philosophy. The book series offers both immediate (Gold) Open Access and delayed Open Access publication options.
