Jan-Eligius Dekkers (Antwerp, June 20, 1915 - Bruges, December 15, 1998) was abbot of the Benedictine St. Peter's Abbey of Steenbrugge (Bruges, Belgium). Dom Dekkers spent most of his active life publishing, in a critical and scholarly edition, the writings of the Church Fathers and medieval Christian theologians, in the series he called Corpus Christianorum.
Summary
In this third edition of the renowned Clavis Patrum Latinorum, scholars will find a comprehensive inventory of Christian Latin texts, from Tertullian in the second century to Bede, who died in 735. Each work, sermon, letter, and poem is carefully identified among the 2,348 entries, many of which are further subdivided into numerous sections. For each text, the most authoritative editions are recorded, together with indications for their improvement, newly discovered manuscripts, studies on textual transmission, linguistic analyses, and related scholarship.
The volume also includes a significantly expanded section of concordances. These establish correspondences between the Clavis numbers and the numbering systems or pagination of seventeen major collections and lists of Latin writings.
As is well known, the Clavis numbering system forms the basis of the publishing programme of the Corpus Christianorum, Series Latina and, more recently, has become an indispensable reference tool within the online Library of Latin Texts (LLT) available through Brepolis.
