A Handlist of the Latin Writers of Great Britain and Ireland before 1540. Additions and Corrections (1997-2001)

This Handlist records the known works of more than two thousand Latin writers from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales from the fifth century to the sixteenth. British and Irish writers who spent their careers on the continent of Europe, continental writers whose careers brought them to Britain or Ireland, and writers who worked under Anglo-Norman rulers in France all find their place. The emphasis is bibliographical rather than biographical, and the aim is to enable the reader easily to discover what an author wrote and where copies may be found. The best or most accessible editions are cited for printed texts, lists of manuscripts are provided for unprinted works or for those works where the available editions do not provide this information. The number of Latin works identified exceeds 5200. Richard Sharpe is the Professor in Diplomatic in the University of Oxford and a fellow of Wadham College.
