The Journal of Celtic Studies was founded by Professor
Howard Maxwell Meroney: its first issue appeared in 1949 and
rapidly gave the new publication a distinctive character. Meroney's
last volume appeared in 1982/3, co-edited with David Dumville. From
2003 The Journal of Celtic Studies has been revived as an
annual publication, each issue containing approximately 250 pages.
The first volume in the parallel book-series, 'Publications of the
Journal of Celtic Studies', was also published in 2003.
