This definitive
Catalogue Raisonné of the work of the great Flemish painter
Peter Paul Rubens is being published in twenty-seven parts, some parts
appearing in more than one volume. The Corpus is based on the material
assembled over several decades by Ludwig Burchard, universally
recognized as the foremost scholar in this field. After Dr
Burchard's death in 1960, his material was handed over to the City
of Antwerp to be edited by the Nationaal Centrum voor de Plastische
Kunsten van de XVIde en de XVIIde Eeuw. Each part is written by a
well-known scholar and the aim is to realize Burchard's intention
of embodying all present-day knowledge of the work of
Rubens.
