Providing the critical edition of Augustine's sermones ad populum LXXI-XCIV, this volume complements CC SL XLI Aa (sermones ad populum LI-LXX A, 2008) and, in doing so, completes the critical edition of the Church Father's homilies on the Gospel of Matthew. Furthermore, the new volume provides an update of the text critical introduction to all sermons on Matthew that was offered in CC SL XLI Aa.

Most sermons of the series LXXI-XCIV were edited for the last time in 1683 by the Maurists; others were critically edited more recently by Germain Morin, Cyrille Lambot, Pierre-Patrick Verbraken, François Dolbeau, Luc De Coninck, Bertrand Coppieters 't Wallant, Roland Demeulenaere, and Gert Partoens. For the present volume, Luc De Coninck and Bertrand Coppieters 't Wallant, assisted by Roland Demeulenaere, have made entirely new editions of most sermons of the first group, and have revised the editions of almost all homilies of the second group. In all cases, this was done on the bases of an extensive study of the manuscripts and with a state-of-the-art knowledge of the stemmatical relations between each sermon's direct and indirect witnesses. The critical editions of four sermons featured in the famous codex Mainz Stadtbibliothek I 9 (sermones LXXII auct., LXXXVI, LXXXIX, and XC A) have been procured by François Dolbeau, while Gert Partoens has revised Morin's edition of sermo LXXII A and republished his own new edition of sermo LXXXII.

Luc De Coninck is former senior lecturer at KU Leuven. With Bertrand Coppieters 't Wallant and Roland Demeulenaere, he edited the first volume of Augustine's sermons on Matthew.

François Dolbeau est Directeur d'études honoraire à l’École Pratique des Hautes Études et Membre de l’Institut de France. Ses recherches regardent l’hagiographie et l’homilétique latines, la littérature médiolatine, et Augustin.

Gert Partoens is full professor of Latin literature at KU Leuven. His research focuses on Latin Patristic literature, and his main publications concern the transmission and critical edition of Augustine's Sermones ad populum.

Nicolas De Maeyer is post-doctoral fellow of the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO) at KU Leuven. His research focuses on the transmission and reception of the works and thinking of Augustine of Hippo in Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages, particularly in the works of Beda Venerabilis. He is currently preparing the editio princeps of Bede's Augustinian commentary on the Pauline Epistles.
