This series is dedicated to the reception of Ptolemy’s astronomical and astrological works from late Antiquity to 1700 A.D. Its aim is to publish critical editions of texts in Arabic and Latin, without excluding other languages, such as Greek, Syriac, Hebrew, Persian and the vernaculars. Texts under consideration include Ptolemy’s authentic works, works attributed to him, as well as their medieval and early modern commentaries and, more generally, astronomical and astrological texts in the Ptolemaic tradition. Besides the critical editions, the series also publishes catalogues of manuscripts, surveys, studies and conference proceedings. The series primarily publishes the results of the project Ptolemaeus Arabus et Latinus (Bayerische Akademie der Wissenschaften, Munich, and the University of Würzburg) and also welcomes external submissions.
The series will be divided into two sub-series or sections:
1. Texts (i.e. critical editions)
2. Studies &Tools (incl. catalogues of manuscripts; surveys of glosses and commentaries; surveys of astronomical tables, almanacs and horoscopes; essays; conference proceedings)
