ABOUT

ARATTA engages with archaeology and ancient history centred on the greater Iranian plateau, extending from southern and central Mesopotamia, to western Arabia, the Indus Valley, and western Central Asia. Focusing on the place of the highland region and its interconnected relations with the surrounding lands linked through both overland and maritime routes, the series seeks to move beyond a Mesopotamian-centred focus for understanding the ancient world towards one that engages with the complexity of mutual interaction that allowed riverine, steppe, mountain and oases cultures to flourish. Covering a chronological period that extends from the Palaeolithic through to the end of the Iron Age, ARATTA accepts monographs and thematic edited collections from archaeology and a wide range of cognate disciplines. Together with its companion series ARAXES, LEMA, SUBARTU, and OXUS, ARATTA forms part of the ARWA collection associated with the International Association for Archaeological Research in Western & Central Asia
